Anticipation
\nThe feeling preceding the letdown,
\nImpatiently waiting for your spot at the top of the slide,
\nJust so you can fall back to earth.<\/p>\n
When is it not pessimism talking, but experience?
\nWhen do I get to say I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not pessimistic, just well-weathered,
\nTurned cynical by a world that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s equal parts reality TV marathons and polarized politics?
\nIt\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Election Day, you know.<\/p>\n
Why is the poem in my head always superior to what you end up seeing?
\nAnticipation.
\nIf I put shoes on my elbows and knees so I can run just after learning to crawl,
\nIs that close enough?
\nAm I enlightened yet?<\/p>\n
If I think the mind is a well that will never run dry of thoughts, materials, poems,
\nAm I na\u00c3\u00afve, dangerously optimistic, or just wise beyond my years?
\nYou\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve done four poems in five days, good for you.
\nThat\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s worth a gold star, for sure.
\nWhat about five weeks? Five months? Five years? Five centuries?
\nIn the year 2379 will I be a brain in a jar hooked up to a word processor,
\nProcessing pickled knowledge that I output as ASCII with an EOF control character when it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s apparent that I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve run out of ideas?
\nIsolated and disconnected from the world that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s changed, changed again,
